Project description:

UAB Elsis TS together with researchers from the Real Time Computer Systems Center (RTCSC) of KTU Faculty of Informatics implemented the Project „Smart Home Service Development and Management System („SNAPAS“) and the prototype of services provided on its basis“ financed under the EU Operational Programme for Economic Growth for 2007-2013, Priority 1 „Research and Development for Competitive Growth of the Economy“, Measure VP2-1.3-ŪM-02-K „Intelektas LT“. The budget of the implemented Project is LTL 4,6 mln. (EUR 1,33 mln.); received support funds amount to LTL 1.9 mln. (EUR 0,55 mln.).
SNAPAS – is a platform (hardware and software infrastructure) of new generation interactive services provided to „smart homes“. SNAPAS is based on distributed system architecture supporting B2B, B2C and C2C business models.
SNAPAS system is aimed at providing digital services through different communication channels – broadband internet communication, local computer networks, and networks of mobile communications operators. The use of the internet communication channels for the overall connection makes the system geographically autonomous enabling to offer, design and maintain services from any place, at any (real) time and to everybody („smart home“ equipment).
SNAPAS system service groups:

  1. management of energy resources and home comfort (resource accounting, settlement, management of systems according to set parameters);
  2. home security (response in cases of housebreaking, fire, water, gas leakage, interruption of power supply);
  3. e.commerce (integration of online stores, searching for goods and services, ordering in online stores);
  4. provision of digital content and entertainments (media centre, interactive TV, VoD, games, distance learning);
  5. health care (telemedicine, tele-consultations, nursing and care services);
  6. building maintenance and administration (collection of data, monitoring and control of dwelling engineering systems, dispatching control);
  7. public services (advertising, information, survey, voting terminals in public places);
  8. specialised services (TV metres, market research, sociological surveys, etc.);
    The main functional participants of SNAPAS system are the manager, provider, designer and user of the services.
    The Project involved the design and testing of two prototype services:
    1. the heating management service aimed at improving comfort for the house inhabitants and achieving cost-efficiency minimising amounts of used heat resources and concurrently reducing expenses for dwelling heating;
    2. the service of accounting and control of used energy resources intended for building manager facilitating real time monitoring and control of heat supplied to dwellings in the service area and managing automated accounting of and payment for used resources.
